I’m happy to have Tio Wally (long-time Me So Hungry reader) aboard to send in his eating adventures from across America. Here he is in Peculiar, Missouri.

Greetings from Peculiar, Missouri

I hope your Thanksgiving is going well.

Thanksgiving for the crew of the SS Me So Hungry is just not coming off as advertised. In fact, it has gone so hopelessly awry that my evil twin, crack lead navigator Skippy, has become hopelessly despondent, inconsolable.

We sailed into Peculiar in high spirits hoping to attend the Annual Thanksgiving Day Groundhog Roast at St. Alfonzo’s Church of the Kewpahn Redeemer that we’d heard so much about. Sadly, it has been cancelled because the nuns decided to forego the roast to pursue their other great passion: precision roller skating in major parades.

We don’t know if the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence made their way to Manhattan to roll their wheels in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Nobody seems to know exactly where they disappeared to. They are a queer, unpredictable group. We just know there will be no Groundhog Roast at St. Alfonzo’s this year. Skippy is truly apoplectic.

To make things worse, we can’t hang around until Saturday when St. Alfonzo’s will hold one of its legendary Pancake Breakfasts. Poor Skippy.

But life goes on. We’re happy to learn that Father Guido Sarducci’s preferred parish survives. And that the bacchanal that masquerades as a croquet tournament is still held monthly.

So for those of you who decided not to spatchcock a fowl this year and are left waiting out the roasting time, please enjoy this video:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
