A new affordable/trendy Asian restaurant on 14th St. The menu says it’s “Taoist & Ayurveda Cuisine Inspired,” dealing with body energy and flow. I want to say it’s a Thai restaurant. They have lunch specials from $6.90-9.00 w/ a free appetizer. The menu ranges from basic stir fry & curry to banh mi style sandwiches with fillings like Satay chicken, Lemongrass beef and Hoisin duck. They even have Indian dosas. I ordered the Herbal Ginko Cinnamon Stewed Beef Noodle Soup. It was quite good. It tasted like authentic home-style Chinese beef stew, but more interesting because of the cinnamon.
Sam ordered the Crispy Fillet Tilapia with Basil Sauce, but they brought out the Salmon w/ Tumeric Curry Cream Sauce which I thought looked a lot better. They were quick to correct the order.
Other things to note –the walls are lined with abacuses and there are mirrored cases on the floor where you’re trying to figure out where the mannequin is reflecting from. They also have a five-course “Aura Treatment” menu –“Herbal combines & macrobiotic selections that help detox and cleanse the body to reset energy flow.” It’s $39 and you need to reserve one day in advance “due to slow cooking in some items and freshness of the ingredients.” Interesting, but I don’t see anything in the current Aura Treatment menu that shouts a bodily Feng shui tuneup, but I’d still be interested to try.

I think they’re trying to great a healthy image with their ayurveda mentioning, but honestly, there’s nothing ayurvedic about Thai curry or bahm mi. They don’t even offer brown rice on the menu. I passed by this restaurant today, but skipped it (despite its affordable lunch special) because I had a lunch reservation somewhere else. I’d give it a try though, especially there’s not much Thai option near 14th Street.
Qi is my new favorite restaurant in NYC! Amazing place.
