In the cafe, there was AsiaDog, Lonestar Empire, Panade Puffs & Pastries and Robicelli’s. I got the Smoked Brisket and Texas-style Potato Salad. A little pricey at $10, but pretty good meat there. I only got one slightly fatty piece that I really liked. How do I ask for just the fatty slices?

After I finished lunch, I walked into Mayor Bloomberg answering questions next door. Then I surprisingly saw my friend Chris Weingarten on one of the music panels. I also ran into a girl I went on a OkCupid date with. I know. Surprisingly, someone went on a date with me when my dating profile was so shitty. My profile pic is me hanging out with Scooby Doo and Shaggy at Universal Studios. I’m fortunate that my work let me take the time to come. I’m getting a lot of value out of it.

I’m not sure how it was almost $10 this time. It was $6 last time a year ago. How did it go up almost $4? I need to get back on my slow-carb diet anyway. I literally can’t afford to eat more carbs.

The group did a great job with the food. Dennis made Buffalo Chicken Dip and Tator Tot Casserole. I like very much! A layer of Tator Tots on top ground meat. It was like a fried Shepard’s Pie.

I had so much beer. And it was so weird to me that we could so easily drink outdoors in a parking lot. We did have to put it in the cup. From my understanding, the North Harlem lot is one of the few places where flaming grills and beer are cool. I think the cops can write you up, but they usually turn a blind eye.

I realized this was my first tailgating experience. It was nuts. We didn’t even go into the stadium until the 5th inning. By then, I was too drunk to pay attention. But it was such a beautiful day and the baseball field was cool to space out to.

It was pretty confusing ordering these. I couldn’t tell how many came in an order. We almost got five orders of Testicles, which would have been 25 balls. That would have been too way many balls. We just got one.

They had other stuff too …like this huge bowl shaped bread, called Noni Toki. It was almost like matzoh. Their Uzbeki style bread was good for the Hummus and Babaganoush.

They served many different types of Chebureki and Samcy patties. We had the ones with pumpkin and ribs. There were real ribs with bones. I liked those a lot.

I recommend the Whole Grilled Chicken. That was really good for sounding so tame (unlike the testicles). I would have been interested in the Lamb Fat and Veal Sweetbread Shish Kebabs if we were to order more.

Really cool restaurant. I enjoyed pretty much everything, even the balls. They even played Sade via Youtube on the TVs the whole night.

We started of with some creamy guacamole, which was really good. Anthony got a fish and pork taco. I got the Chipotle Pork Torta sandwich. Really good drunk food. I woofed it down.

I was so messy that I was surprised the girl next to me didn’t care that my food was so close to her jean jacket on the bar. I asked her about it, but she said it wasn’t hers and apologized for some reason. I think it belonged to the girls before. I might’ve gotten sauce on it.

Every time I planned to go to BonChon (Midtown) before, I was dissuaded by what I hear is a super long wait for the food. In fact, I just assume that’s the nature of Korean Fried Chicken. There used to be a BBQ Chicken (not barbeque chicken, but “Best of the Best Quality Chicken”) Korean spot near my work. There would be no one in there and it would still take over 30 minutes for my small order. They said it was because they fry each chicken to order.

I got Chris of Cubeecraft to go eat BonChon Chicken right now. He got me to go to the East Village one (the same one Rob went to). They both said the service is so much faster there. I’m sold …and they were right. The chicken came so fast. Maybe five-ten minutes after we ordered.

The chicken was crispy, sweet, sticky …delicious. I liked it with Sriracha sauce. They were finger lickin’ good.

We also had Korean Tako Balls, which I kept thinking they said Korean Taco Balls. They were those octopus Takoyaki balls. Really good. At the time, I was wondering what made them taco-style or Mexican. Now I get it. I no dumb.

Okay, yes. The East Village BonChon is the one to go to if you don’t like to wait. It’s hard to find though. There’s no real sign and it looks like a cave. And the small whiteboard says Boca. From my understanding, it’s a bar called Boca that serves BonChon Chicken. I think this place used to be a wood and metal parts shop. I thought Chris was taking me there.

I did come back to try the Roast Pork. It was way too salty. Probably just a bad day.

I think the dealers from the Google Maps drug bust might have moved in front of this restaurant. Or maybe I’m just profiling? They dressed like thugs and it is only twenty feet away. They got real quiet when I walked up, like I was a narc. But I just wanted some chicken.

He’s not the only one that has had odd interactions with Lady Octopus. The Yelp reviews are hilarious …calling the her the “Soup Nazi of Williamsburg.” A must read.

I finally went to try it …for the experience. Every time I had gone before, it was Sunday and they are closed. I kept forgetting that. I wanted Sam to come along to see if she would make him buy a Chicken Cutlet Sandwich two years later, but he wouldn’t answer me.

I went in with a smile, but anticipating the worst. Then I was totally surprised how nice and cheerful she was. No problem at all. She offered me condiments and made sure I had everything I needed. She was even humming a song.

I ordered the Fried Fish Sandwich ($4) and the Fried Vegetable Dumplings ($1.75). The sandwich was alright. It was like a more plumped up Filet-O-Fish. There was a small bone in it, which makes me think it’s not some processed frozen patty. So that was reassuring.

The dumplings were pretty good. Crispy skin. Although I’m not sure if it was really vegetarian. It kinda seemed like pork filling, but that didn’t bother me. I would have ordered pork dumplings if I saw it on the menu. Maybe they have both kinds and I did get a pork. Or maybe that pork isn’t really pork.

The Fish Sandwich was even better when I dipped it in the dumpling soy sauce.

People started coming in when I was finishing up. I thought “Oh shit. Here’s some hipsters and some black people. Okay, now something crazy is gonna happen.” But she was so nice to them …maybe because they were nice to her. It was the total opposite of the Yelp reviews. Maybe it goes to say that a smile goes a long way.
