5th Avenue Street Fair 2010

Both my bands (Tigers and Monkeys & Justice of the Unicorns) joined Strega to play at the 5th Ave Street Fair in Park Slope yesterday at Bar Reis. Had a great time. Ate my MozzArepa (corn arepa with mozzarella cheese in the middle). It’s one of those things that look really awesome and taste good for the first few bites, but then you gotta pass it off to a friend …I mean share. That’s what I did.

Met a new friend, Nimesh, who had his first oyster there and even had his first brunch earlier that day. And it’s not like he just moved to the States, he’s from New Jersey. Funny guy.

I think one the best things I saw at the fair besides tube socks was Chip Shop’s huge fish and chips for $6. I also got a deep fried mac n cheese. It tasted like gooey mac n cheese with fried batter on top. Why’s it gotta be fried? I guess why not.

Near the end of the day, Adam and I roamed around for some food and we came across some Peruvian chicken that Coco Roco was trying to get rid of, $3 end of the day special! I didn’t hear what the girl said and decided to look at some ribs I saw earlier down the street. Adam must’ve thought I was crazy to pass it up, but maybe he trusted me as the food blogger. We ran back to grab those last two $3 chickens. The green and orange sauces they have are awesome. When are people going to bottle these for me?

Ran into a lot of friends. Ate good food. Left a drum stool in front of S’Nice and had to walk all the way back to get it. Slammed a beer at Great Lakes. Came home pooped from all the grill smoke and beer. My coughs sound like I’m dying right now.

Also ran into photographer, Stefano Giovannini. Check out his rad photos at http://stefpix.com/

Atlantic Antic Street Festival 2009

Met up with Yoshie and Rob at the Atlantic Antic street festival –Brooklyn’s biggest street fair on Atlantic Ave (from Hicks St to 4th Ave). It was nice seeing less sausage & socks stands and more local business vendors. We split a few items –Super Nachos with Chicken from Mezcal’s (there was an old Mexican man spinning an oversized noise maker), Soda pop from Wild Bill’s Old Fashion Soda (free refills with a $10 cup or $15 cup for suckers), Brisket sandwich from Waterfront Ale House, and a greasy codfish fritter from Antioch Church.

There was a “Breasturant” where I walked up to because I thought there’d be food, but it was a place for mothers to nurse their babies. And there was a bunch of old buses from the Transit Museum, where people were getting on and taking a seat. I don’t know if they knew it wasn’t going anywhere.

Dim Sum ’09 and I feel fine

Bringing back the annual tradition of going to dim sum during the Chinese New Year Parade. This year was big. Three tables big. It was awesome seeing my friends hanging in the playground waiting for me. Rob tasted pig’s feet. Ike the baby tasted jelly fish. I tasted pig’s blood. I thought it tasted like tofu …pig’s blood flavored tofu. Everyone had a fun time. It was only about $13 each after tip and that included beers.

Most of us missed the parade, but a few saw old Chinese ladies waving on a float. Then some of us went for a beer at Good World. Christa got bit by a cat. Sam bought some steamed pork buns. Jody bought some whipper snapper poppers.  My first year I had a dim sum gathering back in 2003, we were throwing those things around. Lil china kids were throwing them at our feet, perhaps to get us to do a jig. And one of us threw one and it landed in the back of an old chinese lady’s hair. It didn’t go off. It was scary and we didn’t know how to disarm. Our own little 24.

East Market Restaurant – 75 E Broadway, NYC 10002
… this is my secret I’m giving to you. It’s so hidden and hard to find that it’s easy to get a table on Chinese New Year. Most of my friends couldn’t even find it. Good dim sum, cheap, and right next to the parade.
Good World – 3 Orchard Street (btw Canal & Division) New York, NY 10002
…closing soon. Re-live your party nights while you can.

Flea Circus of Food

there is a lot of good food at the flea market. intrigued by the lady shaving meat off cured pig leg. its weird that something like that can be so fancy. take a stab at the one of the red hook ballfield vendors since i still haven’t gone to the red hook ballfield. i still dont know how to pronounce pupusas. i’m glad a lot of the spillage i see on the steps is really just quesadilla juice. i wish anthony and i bought white fur coats for our new band …i know. i know. i didn’t get a pic of the bluebird ice cream.

sept 11th is a special day that marks the 1 year anniversary of being a pickup artist. anthony and me go celebrate at the feast of san gennaro where the marching parade went down wrong street with no one around and have to turn around. i remember the first day i came to new york i ran into san gennaro festival. i keep thinking the next block might have better food so i keep going and going and going. then realize it is the same block as the first. this time no mozzarepa or zeppoles. lets try the beef on the grill thing! dang $14! its okay but next time i use my money to buy a mix cd?

we meet up with friends for beers at botanical bar. i remember a lot of shouting and excitement. we were talk about zeppoles!

then off to black rabbit in greenpoint for erics birthday. i know they have tasty sliders but i forgot to order food. so we foodblog the dog. no one has duck sauce. they make fancy absinthe drink.  and i am sauced. when i wake up the next morning and brush my teef, i make to the realization that erics gf is on the office!
