$1 Pizza Taste-Off (Flatiron District)

I was hungry at lunch time, but didn’t know what to eat. I walked around forever and out of this, I stumbled onto three different $1 pizza slices in my mouth.

For the first place, I walked past a guy handing out fliers for Mike’s $1 pizza slice/Mike’s Papaya Hot Dogs around the corner at Lexington and 23rd St. This new tiny shop was empty. A few old looking slices remained. It was decent for a buck. I really how they had hot sauce on the counter. The guy on the Tobasco commercial was right about hot sauce on pizza.

I thought that first slice would hold me over until I figured out what I wanted to eat. But I wanted another $1 slice, so I walked to the Pizza Truck on Broadway & 28th St. They’re run by Maffei’s. This slice was thicker and crunchy. The cheese and sauce had a better flavor. But I think I prefer the softer crust of Mike’s.

Dang, while I’m on it, why not a third slice at the brand new 2 Bros Pizza on 6th Ave and 25th St? There was a long line of people, but it went super quick as the employees were pulling out pie after pie, slicing and dishing them out. Obviously the freshest slice out of the three.

In conclusion, I thought Mike’s was good for their hot sauce availability, Pizza Truck had the best flavor and 2 Bros was overall best for its freshness. I think these $1 slices are comparable to their $2-3 counterparts around town. So in the end, I got stuffed on three for the price of one. Yipee!
