Today, Burger King had a press event to show off their new “revolutionary” broiler and the upcoming menu items cooked from it. This new broiler allows for different cooking settings at different batches of food, which let’s them cook this thicker 7 ounce Steakhouse XT burger and bone-in St. Louis ribs. It supposedly makes for juicier burgers and is more energy-efficient (“reducing gas consumption in BURGER KING® restaurants by 52 percent and electricity consumption by 90 percent when compared to systems of the past.”).

Whopper fans, don’t fret. I think the Whopper tastes the same, which was important in the research & development phase. The A.1. Steakhouse XT (steak sauce, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, crispy onions) is a pretty good fast food burger. Comes on a different type of bun than the Whopper, which is creased down the middle for perfect halvsies (not that they intended that). The BK Fire-Grilled Ribs are real bone-in ribs. Not very meaty, but tender and pretty amazing for coming out of Burger King. However, I wonder if fast food ribs would be a hard concept to grasp for the general public.

Then they fed us other food to show off the capabilities of the new broiler (Filet Mignon, Mixed Grill of chorizo, prime rib & chicken and S’mores). Not that these will ever show up on their menu, but the S’mores (w/ the flamed burnt marshmallows on top) seems like a great contender. Everyone liked that a lot. My plates of fancy meat was far from amazing from the new broiler, but I still see the potential and flexibility. I’m excited to see what new items they’ll come up with though this. Angry Steakhouse, please? Angry Everything!

More press coverage over at Burger Conquest and A Hamburger Today. Alright, I’m going to go do a couple of push-ups and bug on my back exercises now.

For fast food ribs, they look delicious. I think people will think it’s bizarre since they only “rib” encounter they’ve had are those rib-shapped patty whatever the hell it is from McDonalds.
