Hummus Place
Got to be Jeff’s +1 to a taping of John Oliver’s new Comedy Central stand-up series, so we stopped off for a pre-bite at Hummus Place. My first time at one of these restaurants. Tasty hummus. The pita was warm and soft. Pickles for only 75cents. I liked the green hot sauce a lot. I’d dab a little on my tongue. Hummus –I learned it could be a meal.
At the comedy taping, I laughed pretty loud & hard in the back of the room at some of the stupider jokes –so much that I think few people turned around to see what the hell? Now I know how my friend Shonali feels.

C & L Dumpling House
Met up with Matt Gill after his CMJ sound engineer gig and went to C & L Dumpling House for a cheap meal. Good cheap plump dumplings (5 for $1.25 and 10 for $2.50, which sounds right if you do your math). We didn’t know why every Styrofoam plate in the stack looked dirty. “Maybe they had flour on them?” says Matt. Maybe.
Matt ordered the Pork in Sticky Rice in Soup. The broth was clear and his face was disturbed when he tried it. Turns out it’s just hot water. The dough of the dumpling balls had the texture and consistency of Mochi. It would have been much better if it was real soup. The water did turn a little oily from the pork dumpling balls, but still no real flavor. We tried to root for it. Still a worthy dumpling place.

22 Happy Cups – Bulgogi Crepe
I remember catching my co-worker eating a sweet dessert crepe for his lunch in the window of 22 Happy Cups around the block. It didn’t surprise me since I think he has a thing for Boo-Berry cereal, but I did surprise him when I crept up to the window and his crepe. Boo!
I decided to try the Korean beef Bulgogi crepe lunch special for $6.95. There was a lot of confusion as to where the line was, since no one was any help (customers too lazy to tell the person next to them that they had already ordered and not in line). But even so, it did take a while to get my order taken at the counter. I sat down and watched the people roll in thinking they were in a line. I suppose I also shied away from telling them, but I’d be basically calling out the people in front of them for keeping their mouths shut.
Then there was a loud hobo that strutted in and wasn’t shy to cut to the counter. He spent five minutes asking about ice cream and my crepe. He thought my beef crepe was ice cream. He got the vanilla ice cream …not the beef crepe.
The Bulgogi beef crepe was interesting because the crepe was a little sweet, which I didn’t expect. Sweet and Savory. I wonder if some kimchi on the side would work.
