Lahori Kabab Restaurant

A tiny looking place with trays of Indian food in the windowed counter. It actually has a dim florescent lit dining room in the back. I asked what the best things to get for the 1 meat, 1 vegetable platter $8. The guy suggested the Chicken Kofta Meatballs and the Aloo Palak (spinach and potatoes) which I ordered. He scooped the stuff and reheated it in the convection microwave, just like at Kasturi. Then another white guy came in and asked for suggestions too. I was curious if he would say the same items he told me …he did. Well played.

I don’t know about the ground up chicken meatballs, but did like the Aloo Palak. All pretty spicy. Mama mia, that’s a spicy meatball!

French Dip Eggplant Curry Sandwich

You ever have a ridiculous idea that you thought was so awesome and you weren’t even drunk? I first sauteed some eggplant slices with olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano and balsamic vinegar. Then took some Japanese curry mix with kawaii packaging and dropped it in boiling water with chunks of eggplant and let it simmer for 15 minutes. The eggplant broke down into the liquid, but it was still very thin and watery. I dropped in about 2 tablespoons of flour to thicken it up, but it clumped up immediately –almost becoming mini dumplings. I beat it around until the flour dissolved as much as it could. Threw the eggplant slices on an onion roll and poured on the eggplant curry sauce, with the bread soaking up the eggplant au jus –a sort of vegetarian French Dip Sandwich.

This sandwich was disgusting. I hope you can learn from my failures.

Oh! Taisho & AKB48 in NY

Met up with Sam and Ashley at Webster Hall to see AKB48’s U.S. debut. They’re a bunch of super young Japanese girls singing Japanese pop tunes with choreographed dancing and being all kawaii. There were a lot of guys there to see it. There was an older man where I thought his head was going to explode when they were all saying “thank you” and “goodbye” for five minutes at the end of the show –his hand on the back of his head like “OMG!” and wiping the drool off his chin with his arm. That was probably the best day of his life.

Then to Oh! Taisho on St. Marks (the one closer to 3rd Ave which I’ve never been to because it’s usually crowded.) My favorite dish – the Mentai Potatoes (steak cut fries with cod roe mayo sauce, which is like fancy sauce but with cod roe instead of ketchup). The chicken heart skewer tasted like tougher beef. The Takoyaki Octopus in Dumpling Balls was like a fried ball of hot burning (temp.) mayo type sauce and little bit of octopus. I saw the short bearded Oh! Taisho man that’s on the menu as a cartoon. He looks just like the cartoon.

Matt’s B-day / Mulholland’s / Campfunk Glam Party

Started off Saturday at Matt’s birthday. It was a Karate Kid/Cobra Kai themed backyard party. I smashed my hand on a rock during beer pong. I thought I was going to make a comeback with a crane kick, but didn’t get a chance as Dave sunk his last two balls in my cup. Who am I supposed to be? Mr. Miyagi?

Then off to Mulholland’s in Williamsburg to watch the Gators take on Kentucky with some friends. I ordered the chili and waffle fries ($9). Pretty good bar food. It was sweet and I think I could taste cinnamon. Left after the Gators were on route to a 126-0 game after the 1st quarter. I hope I didn’t jink Tebow.

Headed off to Bushwick to play on top of Funkcamp. Pretty impressive setup for a rooftop. Tigers and Monkeys rocked Buick McKane. Brendan played with us and he shred. There was this band Wild Street. I first thought they were wearing wigs and dressing like this for the Glam Party, but I guess not. They had some catchy 80’s hair metal songs.

Steak Sandwich

Ribeye Steak from C-Town on an onion roll. Put some mayo and grilled onions on this. Reminds me of a ham sandwich. I don’t know why.
