Spaghetti Dinner Spectacular & Hot Kielbasa

christa & jody host a spaghetti dinner party in greenpoint. i created a musical in college called “spaghetti dinner spectacular”. there were songs about love, tragedy, murder, and garlic bread.

i go to the polish sausage shop across the street, not the one where you can get hot kielbasa. the young polish girls yell at me for taking pictures. they thought i came in there before who they yelled at then. i wasn’t upset at being yelled out, but was a little disappointed some other foodblogger beat me to the punch.

danny makes bloody marys. christa makes molinaro sauce. rusty and i grill meat on the veggie grill. jody makes a studio in the basement. it’s almost like my musical. spaghetti was great. thanks for the hospitaliano!

CMJ Day 5: Hot Dogs, Kettle Corn and Fries

rusty and i head over to the aam party at the music hall of williamsburg. cool bands and hot dog. we then meet up with rig 1 and friends at the lodge. so many black label beers during the downpour.

The Ruby Suns – like Weekend at Bernies
A Place to Bury Strangers – like a screensaver
Monotonix – i’ve never seen a singer drop-kick a trash bin. or maybe i have?

CMJ Day 4: Kelloggs Fancy Pants

meet me at the union pool for ape school. i like the bar and love the taco truck, but the bald doorman was surely a dick even when everyone is of age and has their id. he was even giving jody a hard time when he was going back inside to pay his tab, but left his id with the bar. the doorman should go back to school and be a hall monitor.

so we head over to the newly renovated kelloggs diner. it’s now open. we sit down and look at the menu and was shocked at the $20 entree pricetags. surely not the same kelloggs. maybe the lobster tanks should have tipped us off. it turns out that for dinner, they turn into a fine dining restaurant. they were really accommodating and let us order off the breakfast/lunch menu since they realize we were expecting the old kelloggs. service was impeccable. every few mins a different person came to fill our water glasses. i counted four different water guys.

CMJ Day 3: Pork Buns and Chili

anthony and i head to the fader room. a guy at the front recognizes me and my hair from the magazine five-years ago. how does anyone remember that? i can only imagine he has my picture up on his bedroom mural along with other teen hair idols …who wouldn’t?  great time here. they give us wristbands and tell us to keep it on until saturday if we want to get back in. it’ll start a new fashion trend?

good dumpling for some good buns, peking duck in steamed bun wraps, and bak choy to wash down the carbs. pretty darn good buns.

justice of the unicorns at the 205 club for open whiskey bar show. a potential for a lot of trouble. it’s so awesome to see all the friends that came out. made me really happy. makes me wish i could give more. more pork buns?

after ditching the groupies, rusty and i make a meal from a leftover can of chili. add some of that hot pickled peppers from the hot sauce bottle. turned our lips on fire and sobered us up from all that whiskey.

CMJ Day 2: Vick the Max Maker

lunch box of the day from taste good. eating in the middle of the street in the new park tables on broadway.

tigers and monkeys show at fat baby.  thanks to zambri band that let us use their amp. they all look like one of my ex. new friend vick plays match maker with me and a girl named jen.  i suppose she’s cute, but wouldn’t that be like dating my two older sisters who are named jennifer and jenny? or would that be like dating myself if i was born a girl? …jen.

CMJ Day 1: Dosa, Mooncake & Cheeseburger

went to washington square park to pick up my badge. saw the dosa man. perfect. i now have a foodblog! i see a writer interviewing the dosa man. she asks him questions as if she has no clue who he is. doesn’t she read gothamist, seriouseats, or the internet?

head over to the red bull space at night to the only show that i’ve heard of the bands. ooh. i’ve always wanted to try the mooncake foods across the street. i get the shortribs. really good. tastes like chinese. with the green sauce they give me –tastes like mexican. i realize i don’t have my phone with me. very liberating. it’s like 2001 all over again. or maybe 1985? shit. maybe 1805.

best cow tongue in the LES

i once came here with suzy q when i was wasted. i asked what the pots of stew were. the guy says tongue, ear, and stomache. i said i’ll take the tongue. he laughs and he says “no, it tongue.” i said “yeah, I’ll have that”. they all laugh. i have it with rice. the bill came to around $1.70. shit. in manhattan lower east side? i came back this time to get it with a fried ball with meat and another fried thing with meat. btw the tongue is pretty good. kind of like pulled pork tightly packed into a patty. no taste buds on it or anything. seriously not bad.
